Brayan Heredia-Escobar was apprehended following a joint investigation between the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Suffolk County Police in the village of Brewster on Saturday, March 1.
Heredia-Escobar was taken to Suffolk County, where he’s charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Condido Devenites, sheriff’s officials said.
Devenites was found slain in a makeshift tent in Central Islip, just steps from the MTA Police Department near Suffolk and Carleton avenues, on Tuesday, Feb. 18, as Daily Voice reported.
Based on his condition and other evidence found inside the tent, detectives concluded that the man had been murdered, a Suffolk County Police spokesperson told Daily Voice. Additional details about the crime, including a possible motive, were not immediately available.
Heredia-Escobar was arraigned in Suffolk County Court on Sunday, March 2, and pleaded not guilty. He was jailed without bail.
Detectives are urging anyone with information to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
